About Me: Since you're probably wondering how the heck my name is pronounced, we'll start with that: Sara-lee-shuh Wah (like wall, but minus the L's). People call me unique, and it's not just because of my name. I'm quirky and weird and fun, and I just can't deny that. I don't like being normal, and you'll notice that I like to be different when you get to know me. But that's not a bad thing! I love to leave a loving, caring, and fun impression on people when I meet them. I've basically devoted my life to helping people, whether it's by telling a story through my art that would otherwise be forgotten by people, or taking care of my wonderful little family. I married my best friend, Lundyn, in 2015, and in 2016 (two weeks shy of our 1-year anniversary!) we brought our human larva, Skylar, into this world together. She has been the main source of my passion for documentary birth and motherhood photography, because she inspired me to create a photo book of my pregnancy journey for a college photography class project, and my interest in showing the world what motherhood actually looks like began once she was born and I realized just how wrong motherhood is portrayed in movies and on social media. Some fun facts about me: I have a cuddly and very annoying cat named Keekai with snow white fur and ice blue eyes. I have a grumpy yet lovable jack russell terrier named Rio. She looks like a burrito (fat and burrito shaped, white with small brown speckles like a tortilla). I often call her Burrito. I've had many different types of reptiles and amphibians, most recently including a bearded dragon and 3 types of turtles. Speaking of burritos, Chipotle is my favorite restaurant. I live and breathe art. I love to paint, draw, knit/crochet, and do photography (in case that wasn't obvious). I even attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design to pursue a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in Photography. I have a black belt in taekwondo. Nature is my favorite place to be. I love to travel. My dream birth to photograph would be an outdoor birth in the forest!
About My Photography: My work has a very documentary feel to it. I like to focus on the details that most people don't notice during the labor. The soft caress of your partner's hand on your skin. The sweet words of encouragement. Holding your hand to help you through your labor of love. These moments are so often forgotten but complete your story and show the incredible support of your partner. The emotions that you'd otherwise never see, like when you get to meet your baby for the first time. I help parents showcase their love by turning their birth story into beautiful works of art. Your birth story will be available at your fingertips and preserved in my fine art albums so that you can one day look back on your child's birth with them. After all, what's better than allowing your child's legacy to live on forever?
